If you are looking on how to improve their fishing methods or where to go fishing, Stephen Sloan? S Ocean bankruptcy is not the book. Steve took the pulse of our oceans several times in recent years, and let me tell you one thing: this book is not only for fishermen but for everyone on earth who cares about our fisheries, our environment, oceans, our land.
Every ten years a book comes to warning us about the various problems facing our world.
bankruptcy is the book of the ocean environment for the present decade. Compare with Rachel Carson? S Silent Spring in importance.
with the huge demand for seafood worldwide, large commercial longliners are violating our oceans for quick profits. If nothing is done, and quickly, our oceans may never recover.
Sloan is not afraid to fight with wealthy individuals, influential friends, the powerful lobby groups and even takes in the countries themselves. The name names. J? They have never read a book on the environment with guts, Steve is lucky to be alive! There is no mystery, intrigue, deception, the tension so that the book is a pin of physical pages, but more importantly, reading is absolutely necessary if we are to save our oceans.
Sloan is now one of our best and most versatile of the fishermen. He did everything. Fish everywhere. H E can enjoy fishing in the world? S the best seats for the rest of his life, however, is very concerned about the future of the oceans and spends most of his time, energy and resources to help save our fisheries.
CNN, 60 Minutes, Dateline and PBS would do well to examine the collapse of ocean Sloan.
Buy this book immediately. . . if not before.

There are many better books wrtitten are concerned about the state of our oceans, so finding another and not wasting time.

While I applaud the author's purpose of throwing light on the problem of overfishing, the book is a look at several species in very specific and does not offer a good view of the conditions of the world's oceans. Some say that overfishing of these species is an indicator of the health of the oceans of the world, however, some species facing the Board, while others are fine. Highly migratory species (discussed what the author) are not a barometer of the fishing industry as a whole.
As the author is an avid angler, it is logical that is concerned about the species of tuna, marlin, sailfish and swordfish. And with the exception of tuna species, while intensive fishing, are not nearly in the situation in many other fisheries in the United States and around the world. Atlantic cod as an example of the difficulty is more serious and fishing has been almost full. There are serious doubts about whether fishing will never return, and if it does, it will support the business.
Species he refers to overexploitation, although the figures are hotly disputed between nations, making it difficult to assess. Furthermore, the author insists that a certain share of these species should be left to the sport fishing industry. His claim is that the sport fishing industry generates hundreds of millions of dollars into the economy of the boat to fight the sales. I, however, the question of calculation, as seems to involve all sport fishing in the monetary statistics, which do not recognize the many other opportunities for sport fishing in the United States, which is not affected by the decline of highly migratory species.
The author does a good job in showing the problems with the NMFS, however, to discuss how the agency is responsible. They are responsible for all fisheries in U.S. waters, and are grossly under-funded for the task.
There are good books about the decline of fishing industries in the world. If you are interested in highly migratory species, this book may be of value. However, if you're worried about the global oceans is a poor choice of books.
